When you go to a meditation teacher, they might teach you a particular way to mediate. This is fine if it works for you. However, know that there is not only way. There is over a thousand ways to meditate. In fact, if you are completely present in the moment then you are meditating. If your meditation practice is not working for you then you may one of these meditate technique.
Breathwork - Along with just focusing your attention on the breath there are a number of different breathing techniques you can use during your meditation.
Focused Attention Meditation - If you are like me and keeping your attention on your breath is challenging for you. You might want to try keeping your eyes open and focusing all of your attention on one object if you fine your mind wondering bring your attention back to that object.
Visualization - Simply imagine yourself in a peaceful place like a forest or the beach.
Marta Meditation - Repeating a powerful word or phrase over and over again.
Movement Meditation - Yoga, Walking, Dancing, Tai-chi and Qigong are great forms of movements meditation.
